Sectra, an international medical IT and technology company, announced earlier this week the acquisition of Swedish medical IT company RxEye AB. The deal was financed using Sectra’s own funding and finalized on Dec. 30, 2015.

RxEye has built a network for remotely viewing radiology and pathology images that is accessed by more than 2,000 users in countries such as Sweden, Norway, and France. At the time of the deal, the company had a total of six employees.

Torbjörn Kronander, Sectra president and CEO, said the network services RxEye specializes in are growing in importance throughout the healthcare industry.

“Providing services to the medical care sector via the Internet is a delivery model that we can see is increasing in importance and remote viewing of medical images is a growing area due to efficiency requirements and, in certain cases, staff shortages in the medical care sector,” Kronander said in a statement. “RxEye is a small company with products that complement our offering of IT services, which can enhance the efficiency of communication and use of resources in medical care.”

Lars Henriksson, an investment manager at Industrifonden, a former principal owner of RxEye, said in the same statement that this transaction will benefit healthcare providers throughout the region.

“As a result of this transaction and the accompanying access to Sectra’s customer and sales network, the service can continue to be developed and contribute to simplifying the everyday work of radiologists and pathologists,” Henriksson said.

The exact figures of the transaction have not been made public.
