Amid tariff talk, Philips investing over $150M in US expansion

Amid talk about tariffs against Europe and other foreign countries, Philips is announcing plans to invest over $150 million in U.S. expansion.

The Amsterdam-based manufacturer is looking to bolster its facility in Reedsville, Pennsylvania, which produces artificial intelligence-enabled ultrasound systems. In addition, Philips also is adding to its image-guided therapy plant in Plymouth, Minnesota.

“The proposed planned expansion of our manufacturing facilities is a demonstration of our deep commitment to the U.S. region,” Jeff DiLullo, chief region leader, Philips North America, said in a statement

The Reedsville site currently manufactures transducers, customizing software and configuration of ultrasound systems for cardiovascular and maternal care after the expansion. Philips said its Pennsylvania facility is adding 24,000 square feet of manufacturing space and 40,000 more of warehouse square footage. It will create an additional 120 skilled manufacturing jobs in Pennsylvania, Philips said Thursday.

The move comes after rival radiology manufacturer Siemens Healthineers also announced $150 million in U.S. investments in May, with the goal of “bringing manufacturing back to the U.S.”
