RadNet earns European certification for solution that allows technologists to control scanners remotely

RadNet Inc. has earned European certification for TechLive, its solution that allows technologists to control scanners remotely from other locations.

The Los Angeles-based imaging center operator announced the achievement on Thursday after it also gained U.S. clearance of the same technology in August. TechLive is a multimodality, vendor-agnostic tool enabling centralized operation and supervision of MR, CT, PET/CT and ultrasound procedures.

RadNet and its DeepHealth technology services subsidiary said they hope the product can help to address imaging workforce challenges plaguing the EU, similar to the States.

“In Europe, staff shortages have reached critical levels in multiple markets, straining capacity and limiting patient access,” Madhu Jahagirdar, RadNet’s head of product and platforms, enterprise imaging, said in a statement Feb. 26. “By enabling certified experts to operate across physical boundaries and multiple modalities, we are helping providers expand capacity and ensure patients can receive timely, high-quality care regardless of location,” the former Philips executive added later.

The achievement will allow for European commercialization of what RadNet says is the “industry’s first” solution to extend technologist scanner oversight in this fashion. TechLive includes a consolidated interface that allows remote techs to operate multiple imaging machines simultaneously. Its one-view platform provides console controls, patient monitoring and injector visualization, enabling for multisite operations.

DeepHealth said RadNet is currently the largest user of the product, connecting it across over 400 scanners. The company claims this has helped it to achieve measurable improvements, including a 42% reduction in MR room-closure hours and 27% increase in access to complex procedures.

RadNet and DeepHealth plan to showcase the technology at the European Congress of Radiology, taking place March 4 to 8 in Vienna, Austria. The publicly traded imaging group also will disclose its fourth quarter earnings results on Monday, hot off multiple notable acquisitions. Earlier this month, RadNet reached a deal to acquire six imaging centers in Indiana, marking its first foray into the Hoosier State. And in January, RadNet announced plans to purchase 13 additional centers in Florida, with the two deals adding a combined $118 million in revenue to its bottom line.
