The best universities for radiology education, according to US News & World Report
Harvard University is the No. 1 school in the world for radiology, nuclear medicine and medical imaging training, according to new research from U.S. News & World Report.
The Massachusetts-based Ivy League institution also topped the overall 2026-2027 list of Best Global Universities, beating over 2,250 schools evaluated across 100-plus countries. U.S. News said it assessed competitors across 51 different subjects, using bibliometric indicators such as publications, citations and international collaboration.
Stanford University came in at No. 2 on the radiology list with a subject score of 87, behind only Harvard’s 100. Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins University rounded out the radiology top 3, notching a subject score of 83.9.
“For students seeking universities with strong academic excellence and global recognition, the Best Global Universities rankings offer an essential comparative resource,” LaMont Jones, EdD, managing editor for education at U.S. News, said in a June 16 announcement. “Our methodology focuses on a school’s research mission and scholarly impact, helping students identify institutions that are truly at the forefront of global knowledge creation.”
The University of Toronto came in at No. 4 on the radiology list, while Radboud University Nijmegen, in the Netherlands, rounded out the top 5. Toronto touted its spot in the rankings on Monday, with the school also scoring high marks in other areas of medicine such as surgery (4), endocrinology and metabolism (5) and cardiology (6).
“This ranking reflects what I see every day across the University of Toronto’s three campuses: students, faculty, staff and librarians asking big, ambitious questions—and, through their academic excellence, finding compelling answers,” U of T President Melanie Woodin said in a statement June 22. “Our consistently strong global performance as a research university is a product of their outstanding curiosity, ambition and dedication.”
U.S. News compiled the list using data and metrics from Clarivate, a global analytics and data science company, weighing factors that measure a school’s research reputation and performance. The news comes after Harvard Medical School three years ago withdrew itself from consideration for U.S. News’ “best medical schools” survey and rankings amid concern about the process for producing the list.
