The 6,100-member Society of Interventional Radiology has a new president.
Interventional radiologist Charles Ray Jr., MD, PhD, head of the department of radiology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, officially took the reins of SIR April 5 during the group’s annual scientific meeting in Vancouver, B.C.
Ray has led numerous executive activities at SIR over the past nine years, most recently serving as treasurer (2011-14) and secretary (2014-15), according to a SIR press release. He has written, contributed to or presented around 500 scientific works, and he is features editor for SIR's Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology.
Ray conveyed his executive priorities in prepared remarks.
As the specialty continues to grow, he said, “we must redouble our efforts as a society to recruit and develop the next generation of interventional radiologists with patients in mind.”
