Konica Minolta Medical Imaging, Viztek both excited about future after acquisition

Konica Minolta made headlines on Oct. 1 when it acquired Viztek, a provider of digital software and hardware imaging products based out of Garner, N.C., through its U.S. healthcare company, Konica Minolta Medical Imaging.

Joe Cermin, president of Viztek, told RadiologyBusiness.com that a lot of time and energy went into the acquisition, and he’s excited to move ahead.

“We’re both very busy companies, and we’re definitely happy to have it done,” Cermin said. “It’s been nine months in the making.”

David Widmann, president and CEO of Konica Minolta Medical Imaging, also spoke with RadiologyBusiness.com. He said excitement over the deal continues to grow with each passing day.

“As we’ve worked together, we’ve become more and more resolved that our joint abilities to solve customer problems have increased tremendously,” Widmann said. “We’ve seen that in the days since the announcement as we’ve added more people to the dialogue. So it’s a very exciting time for both teams.”

Both Cermin and Widmann think their companies were a perfect fit for one another. Konica Minolta Medical Imaging benefits from being able to offer Viztek’s products to its customers, and Viztek benefits from having its products sold by a company with the reputation and resources of Konica Minolta Medical Imaging.

“Viztek has been a leader in the area of delivering economic workflow solutions and the area of healthcare IT for a many years, and it compliments extremely well the vision and goals of our organization to drive more comprehensive solutions to our customers and gives us a much stronger presence in both the hospital and the vastly growing clinic and urgent care markets,” Widmann said. “And it comes at a time when both of us are poised for growth and we see the opportunities to exceed both of our growth objectives together in a way neither one of us could have done alone.”

Cremin agreed, noting the respect that follows the “Konica Minolta” brand.

“We’re excited to see our products go into a more broad marketplace with a stronger name,” Cermin said.

Konica Minolta Medical Imaging is headquartered in Wayne, N.J. Its parent company, Konica Minolta, was founded in 1936 in Japan. Konica Minolta’s revenue for FY 2014 was approximately $8.5 billion.
