Radiology practice, former physician end court dispute over $20M private equity deal
A Buffalo-area radiology practice and one of its former physicians have ended their court dispute over a $20 million deal to sell imaging centers to a private equity group.
Gregory R. Ball, MD, of Orchard Park, New York, and his attorneys first filed the complaint against Southtowns Radiology Associates in February 2025. Founded in 1959, the practice unloaded its outpatient centers to Rezolut in 2023, generating cash while helping ease the burden of running the radiology group.
Ball had claimed he voiced his opposition to the deal, believing it was rushed, and then was shortchanged by at least $2 million after it was finalized. Meanwhile, eight radiologist former colleagues later countersued in April, claiming Ball’s actions had delayed a $2 million payout tied to the practice selling its centers.
However, the legal battle has now come to a close, Buffalo Business First initially reported Monday. Erie County court records indicate that Dr. Ball’s complaint against Southtowns was officially discontinued “with prejudice”—meaning the lawsuit is permanently closed—on Oct. 28. Meanwhile, radiologists’ counterclaims against Ball were similarly discontinued with prejudice on Oct. 29. Records indicate that both suits were terminated without any costs or attorney fees being paid to either side.
Earlier this year, Rezolut sold its 42 imaging centers including the Southtowns assets to Envision Radiology for an undisclosed sum. You can read more about the legal battle at the links below.
