Shimadzu Medical Systems acquires imaging products and services provider

Shimadzu Medical Systems USA has acquired a U.S. imaging products and services provider as it seeks to expand its presence in North America, leaders said Thursday.

Founded in 1992, Vacaville-based California X-ray Imaging Services Inc. is an authorized distributor for several leading imaging manufacturers. The firm’s business is centered around the northern portions of California and Nevada, with CXIS establishing an “excellent business reputation” among customers, Shimadzu said.

“This acquisition is expected to enhance our ability to build further customer relationships and provide high-quality service support in the region and future growth of [Shimadzu Medical Systems USA],” Tom Kloetzly, the company’s VP of national sales and marketing, said in an April 4 announcement. “CIS has been our partner for many years, and we look forward to leveraging the strengths of both organizations.”

SMS is a medical division of Shimadzu Precision Instruments, a subsidiary of the larger Japan-based umbrella company. Kloetzly and colleagues highlighted the growing need to collaborate more closely with customers, given evolving technology needs. They hope the states-based acquisition will contribute to their increased involvement in the local healthcare market, according to the announcement.
