Florida medical center first in US to install new Canon Medical Systems MR theater
Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, Florida, has installed the first Vantage Titan / Zen Edition 1.5T MR Theater from Canon Medical Systems in the entire country. The system projects virtual reality images onto a dome-shaped screen inside the bore and uses Canon’s Pianissimo technology to reduce acoustic noise by 99 percent.
Parrish Medical Center uses the MR theater for brain, spine, abdominal, extremity and MR angiography exams.
“We are proud to be the first in the U.S. to make this advanced imaging technology available to the people and communities we serve on Florida’s Space Coast,” George Mikitarian, president and CEO of Parrish Medical Center, said in a prepared statement.
“The humming sound of an MRI in operation would sometimes unnerve patients, but that issue is substantially reduced with Canon Medical Systems’ Pianissimo quiet scan technology,” Drew Waterman, vice president of ambulatory services for Parrish Medical Center, said in the same statement. “Thanks to the features of this system, we have calmer and more relaxed patients—naturally, without medication—which leads to more effective scans.”
“The MR Theater was designed with patients and clinicians in mind, helping clinicians address some of the biggest challenges they face with MR imaging—claustrophobia and patient anxiety,” Dominic Smith, senior director of CT, PET/CT and MR business units for Canon Medical Systems, explained. “The features enhance patient comfort with a unique range of audio and visual features, enabling clinicians to complete MR exams quickly while improving patient satisfaction.”
