Radiologist’s new startup dramatically speeds up MR spectroscopy analysis

A radiologist is now turning her years-old idea into a new healthcare startup.

Alex Lin, PhD, director of the Center for Clinical Spectroscopy at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and professor of radiology at Harvard Medical School, has started BrainSpec, a company that has developed software to analyze MR spectroscopy in a matter of minutes.

“This software will allow us to take [processing a patient] from three days to three minutes,” Lin said. “That’s the reason we felt this was something we needed to develop. We have a backlog of patients.”

BrainSpec received a $10,000 grant from Brigham and Women’s Hospital’s Innovation Hub program, allowing Lin and her team to develop their idea.
