Peter Stroz and his wife, Sophia, are both radiologists. They wanted a chance of pace, something to do on the weekends when they weren’t practicing medicine. But instead of, say, taking up tennis or joining a country club, they bought an 80-acre farm in Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada, and opened up a distillery. They make whiskey, rum, vodka, and more.

Vice reported on the story, and Peter Stroz told the publication he sees similarities between his full-time work as a radiologist and running a distillery.

“Having a science background was critical,” he said. “Understanding all of the science about the mash, the fermentation process, sterilizing, and keeping things clean are all crucial to the process. Even the science of the barrel, from the woods, to temperature. As a scientist, there are always things that you can learn and fine tune.”
