Following an investigation into misread scans back in 2011, government officials in British Columbia, Canada, promised there would be peer reviews of the work of radiologists. However, according to a new report by the Vancouver Sun, just two-thirds of radiologists from the area are having their readings looked over for a second opinion.
Sarah Plank, ministry spokesperson, said there was no delay, but it does take a lot of time to develop such a peer review system.
“A large-scale provincewide IT system isn’t something you can just turn on overnight,” Plank said, as quoted by the Sun.
