Rep. Mike Carey introduced the Imaging Services Price Transparency Act July 25, hoping to better inform patients about services provided by the specialty. 

Such ownership changes were associated with an 8.2% price increase in radiology and statistically significant upticks across 8 of the 10 specialties examined. 

The Denver-based company is letting go more than 100 staffers, including its CEO, interim CFO and chief legal officer. 

ICAD Inc. said the deal spans multiple years and will see the nation’s largest radiology group adopting its breast  technology across the enterprise.

Plaintiff attorneys are asking for damages in excess of $5 million, not including interest and other costs, and seeking class-action status.

The groups are concerned that the rule could result in billing errors, inadvertent payment denials and slow claims processing. 

Both are making ample use of advanced-practice providers to handle procedures and other billable work, with a few notable differences. 

Full professors in imaging earned median compensation of about $500,320 between 2015-2022, researchers wrote in JAMA.

“Imaging for nonspecific low back pain” was listed as the most frequently occurring low-value service, impacting upward of 9.3% of beneficiaries.
