Radiologist shortage continues to impact patients in Wales
A shortage of radiologists continues to delay patient care in the U.K., a trend that leaves women waiting a long time for mammogram results.
According to a new report from WalesOnline, patients typically wait approximately three weeks after an appointment to receive their results. Currently, however, some patients are waiting up to seven weeks.
Women served by the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University (ABMU) health board are reporting these delays. A spokeswoman for the ABMU health board apologized for the issue, according to the report, and said that it is related to the ongoing shortage of radiologists.
"While we always aim to provide kind and compassionate care, a national shortage of radiologists and radiographers means we are not always able to do so as quickly as we would like,” said Christine Morrell, the ABMU health board’s deputy director for therapies and health science, as quoted by WalesOnline.
