Independent practice coalition Strategic Radiology adds 1st member in Minnesota

Strategic Radiology, a coalition of independent imaging groups, has added its first practice in Minnesota, leaders announced Thursday.

Regional Diagnostic Radiology is based in the St. Cloud suburb of Sartell, employing more than 20 physicians. Around for 40 years, the practice provides diagnostic and interventional services across 10 hospitals and five health systems.

“We hope to access [Strategic Radiology’s] purchasing power to improve the value of the service we provide, but also to participate in creating a sustainable national network of expertise,” Regional Diagnostic Radiology President Darrin Spoden, DO, said in a Dec. 7 announcement.

The practice also has a substantial outpatient component, including a full-service center run via a joint venture with its primary health system. Regional Diagnostic Radiology also operates an MRI center with another partner hospital, the only comprehensive breast center in central Minnesota, and a wholly owned minimally invasive vein center. In addition, its administrative arm runs a managed services organization that provides billing support to other practices.

Following the partnership, Strategic Radiology now includes 37 independent practices representing 1,700-plus physicians.
