Lantheus Ohio Plant Back Online

Two years after an FDA inspection ordered the closure of the Bedford, OH, plant of its partner, Ben Venue Laboratories (BVL), Lantheus Medical Imaging has the facility back up and resuming production of its DEFINITY ultrasound contrast media.According to the Boston Business Journal, BVL “was the sole manufacturer of Lantheus’ DEFINITY and its regulatory issues, which extended well past the initial resolution date of March 2011, resulted in supply shortages for health care providers who rely on the imaging agent.” The revenue losses were offset by a $30 million payment in early 2012 from BVL to Lantheus, which blamed its 13 percent revenue drop off in the first quarter of this year on the facility and its production issues.
