Novartis building massive new radioligand manufacturing facility as part of $23B investment in US
Novartis has announced plans to construct a new radioligand therapy manufacturing site in Denton, Texas.
The pharmaceutical giant shared the news in an announcement Wednesday, noting the new site is part of its $23 billion investment in the United States. The 46,000 square foot Denton site will be the fifth Novartis has constructed stateside.
Other research, development and manufacturing sites are located in New Jersey, Indiana and California, with another planned for Florida. Novartis has indicated its geographic expansion is part of the company’s bigger goal of expanding access to radioligand therapy, as time is a critical factor in ensuring effective treatment.
“RLT has the potential to revolutionize cancer care,” said Vas Narasimhan, CEO of Novartis. “The addition of our fifth RLT manufacturing site in the U.S. strengthens our ability to meet growing demand, building the capabilities needed to deliver these next-generation treatments with the speed and precision they require.”
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott also commented on how the new site will benefit the state from an economic standpoint.
“This significant investment by Novartis in Denton will establish their first manufacturing facility in Texas for cancer therapies and create good-paying jobs in bioengineering, advanced manufacturing, and more," Abbott said. "Working together with innovative global leaders, we will continue to strengthen critical supply chains to help speed next-generation treatments to patients across Texas and the U.S.”
Construction on the site is expected to begin this year. Novartis has signaled that it will be fully operational by 2028.
