Positron Corporation, a molecular imaging company specializing in the field of nuclear cardiology, yesterday announced plans to introduce an automated radiopharmaceutical system, at two upcoming industry conferences.
Formerly known as Cardio-Assist during its developmental stage, PosiRx ™ automates the elution, preparation, and dispensing processes for radiopharmaceutical agents used in molecular imaging. It will be launched at the American Pharmacists Association Annual Meeting and Exposition, to be held in Seattle, Washington from March 25 through March 28, as well as at American College of Cardiology’s annual meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana from April 2 through April 5.
Positron CEO Patrick G. Rooney says such products the PosiRx will be “critical” in revolutionizing, simplifying, and controlling procedures associated with the compounding, dispensing, and distributing of radiopharmaceuticals, resulting in increased productivity, and decreased exposure and costs.“PosiRx offers capabilities that enhance each segment of the value chain, from pharmaceutical manufacturers, pharmacies, and ultimately the physician practice or hospital, by improving the efficiency, economics, availability, and safety of radiopharmaceutical preparation.”
He adds that the company’s current focus for PosiRx will center on the handling of technetium 99m SPECT imaging agents, supporting Positron’s overall strategy of simplifying and improving radiopharmaceutical dose preparation and delivery. The PosiRx system provides molecular imaging departments with 24/7 unit dose accessibility, combined with the reliability of an on-site supply, and assists in compliance with all current USP-797 requirements for the production of unit dose radiopharmaceuticals.
