Siemens Healthineers signs $50M value partnership with state’s largest hospital system
Siemens Healthineers has signed a $50 million value partnership with one of South Carolina’s largest hospital systems, the company announced Tuesday.
The deal is with Greenville-based Prisma Health and includes acquiring the Ethos radiotherapy system from subsidiary company Varian. Siemens Healthineers said the product offers cancer patients “more precise and personalized care” with artificial intelligence-driven therapy planning and treatment.
Prisma Health—which operates 18 hospitals across 21 counties—previously inked a 10-year partnership with Siemens Healthineers in 2021. This latest pact expands their relationship to add specialized clinical oncology and professional services, new care tools and “time-saving workflows.”
“Working with Prisma Health to establish a full continuum of cancer care—from screening and diagnosis through survivorship—is an enormous point of pride for our organization,” John Kowal, president and head of the Americas at Siemens Healthineers, said in a July 29 announcement. “Combining the power of diagnostic imaging, radiation therapy and post-treatment monitoring with professional services to manage complex oncology operations helps to ensure that advances in patient care are consistent and sustainable over time.”
Siemens Healthineers did not disclose the value of the original partnership from four years ago. At the time, officials said the collaboration would focus on healthcare innovation, workforce development and improving outcomes. Since then, Prisma Health has worked to expand access to imaging while introducing new technologies and care locations across South Carolina and Tennessee.
The Germany-based healthcare giant also announced its latest quarterly earnings results on Wednesday.
