Akumin inks joint venture to ramp up production of mobile imaging clinics
Radiology and radiation oncology services provider Akumin Inc. recently inked a joint venture deal aimed at ramping up production of its mobile imaging clinics.
The Tampa, Florida-based firm announced Tuesday it’s teaming with CGS Premier to form a new company called Mobile Healthcare Innovations. Akumin plans to work with the Wisconsin manufacturer to engineer, assemble and deploy its Axis relocatable clinics, hoping to “meet growing U.S. demand.”
Leaders from both companies recently cut the ribbon on their new 85,400-square facility in New Berlin, Wisconsin, to celebrate its opening.
“As demand for imaging and oncology services continues to grow across the country, the completion of this new facility allows us to deliver products quickly and efficiently,” Akumin CEO Henry Howe said in a statement June 23. “We now have the capacity and infrastructure to scale our solutions in a way that directly meets that need.”
Akumin said the new factory is “purposefully built” in both size and structure to support high-volume production. It notes that the investment in Mobile Healthcare Innovations also will help to drive local job creation and economic development while positioning Akumin for long-term growth. The company currently supports over 800 hospital and physician practice clients.
MHI will work to design and fabricate mobile healthcare environments across radiology and radiation oncology. Their aim is to help provider groups reach underserved communities, reducing barriers to care that come with high construction costs.
“We’re excited to combine engineering expertise and manufacturing scalability to support the need in healthcare infrastructure while keeping the purpose and patient in mind,” Greg Peterson, CEO of Mobile Healthcare Innovations, said in the announcement.
