Job board ranks the top available radiologist positions

A job board is ranking the top available radiologist positions as of this month, based on salary and other factors.

Staffing firm Marit Health said Tuesday that its rankings utilized nearly 5,000 job listings, posted on its website as of July 12. The San Francisco-based company separated its lists based on practice sites including academia, hospital systems, medical groups and remote reading roles (a “rapidly growing segment of the radiology job market”).

“Today, there are thousands of open radiologist jobs on Marit. Not all of them are equal,” the company said in a blog post published July 14. “The best listings are transparent and tell you exactly what you want to know: what the job pays, what the schedule looks like, whether call is required, and what benefits come with it. The ones that don't are asking you to make a major career decision without the information you need to make it.”

To qualify for the rankings, a listing must include expected compensation, work schedule and shift details. Marit assigned jobs a predicted salary using a statistical model based on specialty, location, employer type and workload. Jobs were ranked by how much their actual listed compensation exceeded the model’s salary prediction, holding other factors constant. Listings that do not include on-call schedule and benefit details were penalized in the rankings. Same for those with wide or ambiguous compensation ranges. Marit also excluded all locum tenens roles and offered only one listing per employer in cases where there were multiple roles available.

In academics, a pediatric body radiologist position at Phoenix Children’s took the top spot. Marit highlighted the post for its flexibility and hybrid work schedule, with an estimated salary range between $500,000 to $1 million.

“Academic radiology has a distinct appeal: the chance to teach residents and fellows, contribute to research, and work alongside specialists on complex cases,” the blog post noted. “The top academic radiology jobs on Marit deliver all of that and stand out for pay and benefits, too.”

On the hospital system side, a breast radiologist role with Highmark Health, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, took the top spot. The job pays an estimated $680,000 and excludes any weekend, holiday, evening or pager call.

“Health systems offer a kind of stability that independent practices often can't: institutional backing, multidisciplinary teams, and benefits packages that tend to go further than what smaller employers put together,” the blog post noted. “The top health system radiology jobs on Marit reflect that, with several listings going well beyond salary to give candidates the full picture.”

In the medical group rankings, an abdominal specialist role with Mecklenburg Radiology Associates, Charlotte, North Carolina, claimed the top spot. The practice offers perks including a projected $800,000 salary, no call and a three-year partnership track.

“Medical groups tend to have the highest radiology compensation,” Marit reported. “Physician-owned and independent practices compete hard for subspecialists, which means higher base pay, transparent partnership tracks, and generous signing bonuses.”

And finally, Quantum Imaging, a private practice based in Lewisberry, Pennsylvania, claimed the top spot on the remote radiology top jobs list. The overnight telerad role lists a salary range between $700,000 to $1.2 million and includes a partnership track opportunity utilizing a 7-on-7-off schedule.

“Teleradiology has grown from a niche coverage model into a career path in its own right,” Marit said. “Remote radiology roles offer flexibility: schedule control, geographic freedom, and in many cases premium pay for off-hours coverage.”

You can find the full lists in the blog post here. Marit Health also recently shared the top metro areas for radiologists to practice, placing Minnesota’s Twin Cities in the top spot.

Correction: An earlier version of this story included an incorrect salary amount for Quantum Imaging's open position. Radiology Business regrets the error.
