Christine E. Edmonds awarded 2018 Carestream Health/RSNA Research Scholar Grant

The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Research & Education Foundation awarded the $75,000 2018 Carestream Health/RSNA Research Scholar Grant to Christine E. Edmonds, MD, of Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. The grant is given to developing leaders in radiology research for a two-year study.

Edmonds developed novel PET tracers for imaging the protein HER3 and the enzyme HDAC in an effort to identify a cause of treatment resistance and improve treatment in breast cancer patients. The end goal of Edmonds’ research is to use the PET tracers to decrease treatment failure of triple negative and HER2-positive breast cancer.

The award is designed to help transform “young faculty” into independent researchers and prepare them for additional funding from the National Institutes of Health.

“The R&E Foundation is grateful for Carestream Health’s support of the 2018 grant recipients. This longstanding partnership and commitment is a vital component in ensuring research innovation and seeding the future of radiology,” N. Reed Dunnick, MD, chair of the Research & Education Foundation Board of Trustees, said in a prepared statement.

The RSNA Research & Education Foundation Board of Trustees approved $4 million in funding for radiology research this year.
