The American College of Radiology’s Commission on Patient- and Family-Centered Care announced its new Informatics Committee this week, saying the new group will work toward developing technology that empowers patients as radiology continues its shift to patient-centered care.

The commission’s chair, James V. Rawson, MD,  P.L., J. Luther and Ada Warren Professor and chair of radiology and imaging at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, discussed the new committee in a prepared statement.

“Informatics Committee members will examine technology solutions that support patient- and family-centered care, enhancing the patient experience while increasing efficiency and reducing costs through improved workflow and communications,” Rawson said. “Patient engagement is a critical element in the redesign of the country’s health care system—and this affects how we create, store, find, manipulate and share information.”

Tessa S. Cook, MD, PhD, chief of 3D and advanced imaging at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, will chair the Informatics Committee.
