CT, 3D printing unveil face of 9,000-year-old Greek teen

Using CT and 3D printing, researchers unveiled the reconstructed face of a teenager, Avgi, who lived in the Mesolithic period, around 7,000 B.C. Her remains were first discovered in 1993 in the Theopetra Cave in Greece.

Using her bone structure and facial features as a guide, scientists revealed her protruding jaw could have been caused by chewing on animal skin to turn it into soft leather, according to a report from BBC. She may have suffered from anemia due to lack of nutrients, and she may had hip and joint problems, ultimately contributing to her death.

Avgi’s reconstructed face is currently on display at the Acropolis Museum in Athens.
