Georgia's First Lady diagnosed with breast cancer, encourages annual mammograms
Georgia’s First Lady, Sandra Deal, is encouraging women to get mammograms after a cancerous tumor was discovered during her annual mammogram.
Deal, wife of Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal, was diagnosed with Stage I breast cancer and is now recovering from successful surgery that removed the tumor, according to a statement posted on her website.
“Since I caught it in its early stages, I am confident that the chemotherapy will yield successful results,” Deal said in the statement. “In light of this, I encourage all women to be proactive about their health and see a medical professional for an annual mammogram.”
Deal will begin chemotherapy treatment “in the coming weeks.”
