Radiology Business Management Association names annual award winners

The Radiology Business Management Association recently recognized a host of notable names for their contributions to the specialty.

Past President Linda A. Wilgus, MBA, took home the association’s prestigious Calhoun Award, given each year since 1999 to recognize an individual’s “outstanding” contributions to radiology business management. She’s currently the executive director and chief financial officer of Northwest Radiology Network, located in Indianapolis, and has been a key figure in recent advocacy efforts.

“Linda has been a tremendous mentor and friend as well as a highly respected leader within this association,” RBMA immediate past President Shannon Wilson, with Mass General Brigham, said in an April 19 announcement. “Her countless hours advocating on behalf of our membership and practices across the country as well as leading the efforts to ensure radiology has a strong voice in the upcoming [Physician Practice Information Survey] and Medicare payment reform are only a few reasons she was recognized.”

RBMA also handed out several additional awards at its annual meeting, held this month in Hollywood, Florida:

  • Mark Pavlakovich with Los Angeles-based vendor MedInformatix, received the President’s Award, honoring those who go “above and beyond to promote an atmosphere that enhances networking and progress through sharing.”
  • Raquel Roman, director of growth at Phoenix-based Essential Radiology, received the Young Professional Award, recognizing those who help expand the association’s visibility among younger generations.
  • Mark Kalmar of Pacific Imaging Consultants in Corvallis, Oregon; Jeff Maze of Chapel Hill, North Carolina-based vendor Quinsite; and Nicole Palmer, of MSN Healthcare Solutions in Columbus, Georgia, received Global Achievement Awards. The designation recognizes those who have made “outstanding time and talent contributions” to RBMA.
  • Keith E. Chew, PhD, of Consulting with Integrity in Chatham, Illinois, received a Special Recognition Award for his “tenure and considerable time” donated to both the RBMA and American College of Radiology.
  • Stacy Sanso of ARA Diagnostic Imaging in Austin, Texas, and Kim Singletary of Radiology Associates in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, were named as the 2023 RBMA Class of Fellows.

The Radiology Business Management Association also handed out its second annual RAD Honors Awards. Thomas Marshall, MBA, chief marking and business development officer at Chesapeake Medical Imaging in Annapolis, Maryland, took home the Changemaker Award. It was created to honor healthcare executives who have made a notable impact in their organization or the industry at large.

“Healthcare, specifically radiology, is all about collaboration and teamwork,” Marshall said in an announcement shared April 24. “I’m so thankful to have the opportunity to work with our incredible [Chesapeake Medical Imaging] organization, RBMA, and the overall radiology community as we strive to make a difference for the patients who walk through our respective doors.”

Several other organizations received RAD Honors Awards, selected by a panel of industry volunteers:

  • Radiology Associates of Northern Kentucky, based in Crestview Hills, received the Innovation Award, recognizing a notable product or service.
  • Fort Jesse Imaging Center in Normal, Illinois, received the Culture and Well Being Award for its excellence in company culture.
  • The Radiology Clinic of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, received the Best Patient Marketing Campaign Award for its consumer outreach efforts.
  • Fort Jesse Imaging Center also took home the Best Physician Marketing Campaign Award for its doc-facing promotions.
  • Lake Medical Imaging was honored with the Best Collaborative Achievement Award, recognizing collaboration with entities such as hospitals, vendors or practices outside of the specialty.
  • And finally, both Outpatient Imaging Affiliates of Franklin, Tennessee, and San Francisco-based vendor Rad AI, received the Champion for a Cause Award, honoring those who have made significant contributions to their communities.
