Radiology provider Akumin continues C-suite shakeup with new CFO, other execs
Radiology and radiation oncology services provider Akumin is continuing its C-suite shakeup with the announced hiring of three new executives on Monday.
The Plantation, Florida-based organization is bringing aboard Victoria Garcia, MBA, as chief financial officer, hiring her from the Dental Care Alliance, a practice-support organization with 400 affiliates. Garcia replaces Akumin CFO Juan Perez, whose departure was announced in March.
In addition, the company also is naming Paul Boothe as its new president of mobile and oncology—combining the two hospital-facing service lines under one leader. He previously served as president of RXO, a trucking business, and replaces Tom Gaston, who is retiring from his role as executive VP of mobile radiology.
Finally, Akumin has appointed Alex Reynolds executive VP of fixed radiology. He joins the organization from Surgery Partners, a publicly traded operator of such facilities, and succeeds Randy Woelfel, who has served as EVP and head of fixed radiology sites and personal injury.
“Following a thorough search process, we are thrilled to welcome Victoria, Paul and Alex to our exceptional leadership team. Each of them brings a strong set of skills and expertise that will meaningfully contribute to the business,” Akumin CEO Henry Howe, MBA, said in a July 21 announcement. “These appointments are a key part of our go-forward strategy as we strengthen internal alignment, drive growth and create a more agile platform for delivering high-quality patient care. Additionally, on behalf of the board, I would like to express our gratitude to Juan, Tom and Randy for their service and contributions to Akumin and wish them continued success in their next chapters.”
Howe joined the organization a few months ago after the abrupt departure of former CEO Krishna Kumar, MBA. Akumin also hired radiologist Nasir Siddiqui, MD, MBA, as its first chief medical officer in May and established a new physician advisory board in February. All of these moves come after the organization emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February 2024.
Akumin bills itself as the U.S. “leader in advanced imaging and radiation oncology services,” with its sites handling among the largest MRI and PET/CT volumes in the country. It currently has partnerships with over 1,000 healthcare providers and physician groups, including “23 of the top 30 health systems.”
Here’s a little more about the three new hires:
- Victoria Garcia previously served as chief financial officer at the Dental Care Alliance since 2023. During her tenure, she helped to modernize financial operations, implementing a “technology-driven approach” to support clinical and operational goals, Akumin said. Garcia also held senior finance roles with organizations including North American Partners in Anesthesia, American Anesthesiology and Mednax (a multispecialty group that previously operated in radiology). She holds a bachelor’s in finance and a master’s in business administration from Florida International University.
- Paul Boothe previously provided operational leadership at RXO, serving as president of Last Mile and Dedicated Transportation for the trucking firm. Before that, he held senior roles at XPO Logistics (from which RXO was a spin-off), Ryder and PepsiCo. He is a University of Texas at Austin graduate and holds executive certifications from both the Kellogg School at Northwestern University and the University of North Texas.
- Alex Reynolds previously served as SVP of operations for a multi-state Surgery Partners business unit generating $1 billion in revenue. There, he oversaw the integration of a multisite acquisition, helped launched several newly constructed facilities, and assembled teams to support hospital system partnerships. Before that, Reynolds held several leadership roles with Surgical Care Affiliates. He earned an MBA and MHA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and bachelor’s from Southern Illinois University.
