Publicly traded radiology provider Akumin has selected a former Philips executive to fill a key C-suite position, the company announced Monday.
Krishna Kumar, MBA, will assume the role of president and chief operating officer on June 16. Prior to joining Akumin, he spent more than 13 years with the Amsterdam-based imaging manufacturer, most recently as senior VP and business leader in precision diagnostics. He also served as CEO of Philips’ healthcare businesses in India.
“Krishna brings a powerful combination of strategic thinking, operational and organization development experience and strong relationships with health systems across North America that will be invaluable to Akumin and our stakeholders,” Riadh Zine, chairman and CEO of Akumin, said in a June 12 announcement.
Kumar spent four years leading Philips’ global businesses in pathology, oncology and neuro. Before that, he held leadership roles in the U.S., Japan, China and India with Johnson & Johnson. There, he was “instrumental in building and scaling up many high-growth businesses with innovative go-to-market strategies,” Akumin said
Rohit Navani previously served in the COO role and continues with the company as chief corporate affairs officer.
Akumin also announced the termination of Chief Financial Officer William Larkin in August. David Kretschmer was appointed as interim CFO and now is permanently filling the role, according to Akumin’s website. At the time, the company said the firing was part of a “transformation program” aimed at improving patient access and experience, customer and partner engagement, financial sustainability and employee well-being. Co-CEO Rhonda Longmore-Grund also departed in March 2022 after the organization's board opted not to continue with two chief executives. She had served in the role after Akumin acquired Alliance Healthcare Services, which she piloted for three years.
Based in Plantation, Florida, Akumin, operates a network of 180 imaging locations, providing outpatient radiology and oncology services to 1,100 hospitals and health systems in 48 states.
