Radiology provider LucidHealth names new CEO

Columbus, Ohio-headquartered radiology provider LucidHealth on Tuesday said it’s appointing a new CEO less than two and a half years after hiring its current chief executive.

David Grau, Lucid’s chief operating officer, will take on the title beginning May 1. He’ll replace Steve Corbeil, who first became CEO of the private equity-backed imaging group in November 2023

LucidHealth said the leadership transition is part of a “thoughtfully planned succession process,” with Corbeil returning to the role of board executive chairman. He previously filled this position from 2019-2020, delivering “invaluable advisory and strategic direction to private equity owners, physician partners and executive management.”

“By returning to the executive chairman role, I will continue to provide the continuity and strategic oversight that defined my tenure as CEO,” Corbeil said in a statement April 14. “The board and I have complete confidence in David’s leadership and his ability to guide LucidHealth into its next phase of growth and impact.”

Corbeil also served as an independent director on the LucidHealth board from 2018-2023 before replacing previous CEO Asif Ahmad, MBA. As chairman, he plans to focus on “strategic continuity, governance and long-term value creation,” the company added. Corbeil previously spent over 11 years with hospital giant HCA Healthcare, including five as president of its TriStar Division. He called serving as CEO an “honor and a privilege,” and said he believes the imaging group is “exceptionally well-positioned for the future.”

More on the new CEO

Meanwhile, new CEO David Grau first joined the company in 2020 as chief strategy officer, with LucidHealth shifting him to COO in February 2024. His resume boasts over 25 years of leadership experience in physician specialty services. Grau also served as chief strategy officer of both Anthelio Healthcare Solutions (2013-2017), a provider of healthcare IT services, and the Dimensional Dental support organization (DSO) (2018-2020). He spent over four years with McKesson Specialty Health, including as associate director of finance (2009-2012) and program director of information and technology services (2012-2013).

Since joining LucidHealth, Grau has played a “pivotal role in shaping strategic direction and driving sustained growth,” the company said Tuesday. After becoming COO two years ago, he has successfully led efforts to streamline operational performance while also working to leverage technology. This work has helped to “measurably enhance” the experience of LucidHealth’s radiologists, the company claimed.

“Our focus remains on disciplined, patient-centered expansion,” Grau said in a statement. “We are strengthening the communities we serve while continuing to invest in technology, clinical excellence and the radiologist experience,” he added. “Steve’s leadership has laid a strong foundation for the future, and I am grateful for his partnership and continued guidance as we build an even more connected, resilient and forward-looking organization together.”

LucidHealth was founded in 2016 with funds from private equity firm Excellere Partners. Its network of community-based radiology practices serves over 140 healthcare facilities, employing 300 on-site and remote radiologists across the U.S. In January, Lucid sold 13 Florida imaging centers that were previously part of Radiology Regional to RadNet for $65 million. The company also recently rebranded its teleradiology division.
