Radiology vendor Aidoc hires former AMA president as chief medical officer
Aidoc has hired former American Medical Association president Jesse M. Ehrenfeld, MD, MPH, as its chief medical officer, the radiology artificial intelligence vendor announced Wednesday.
A practicing anesthesiologist and clinical informaticist, Ehrenfeld will aid hospital systems in adopting AI tools from the New York-based technology firm. He also continues as a part-time professor with the Medical College of Wisconsin, according to LinkedIn, and previously served as a commander in the U.S. Navy.
Founded in 2016, Aidoc is a global leader in clinical AI, holding the most U.S. FDA clearances for computer-aided detection solutions on the market, powering care for over 60 million patients annually.
“Despite workforce shortages and rising volumes, radiologists have been leading the evolution of clinical AI,” Ehrenfeld said in a Jan. 7 announcement. “Imaging is foundational to patient flow and outcomes, and with the foundation model revolution, radiology and clinicians downstream will unlock far more value from imaging than is possible today. That trajectory made it clear to me: Leading the next chapter of healthcare requires a deep partnership with the radiology community.”
Ehrenfeld has contributed to both federal and military health initiatives, Aidoc noted. This included serving as a special advisor to the U.S. surgeon general and co-leading the office’s Digital Medicine Taskforce on Personalized and Digital Medicine. He also is a prolific researcher, the vendor said, having authored over 275 per-reviewed manuscripts, co-producing 22 textbooks, and serving as emeritus editor-in-chief of the Journal of Medical Systems.
Ehrenfeld has served as a “leading national voice on physician well-being” during his tenure with the AMA, which will continue in this new capacity.
“Having a national leader of Dr. Ehrenfeld's stature join Aidoc is a major milestone for us," CEO Elad Walach said in the announcement. "As AI reshapes medicine, Dr. Ehrenfeld brings a unique perspective that keeps our strategy grounded in safety, quality and real-world physician experience. He will lead the charge in ensuring AI serves as a trusted 'force multiplier' for physician capacity, not a distraction."
