Noted physician Richard Duszak, MD, has been appointed as the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s chair of radiology, leaders announced recently.
He currently serves as professor and vice chair for health policy and practice in the Emory University School of Medicine’s department of radiology in Atlanta. Before that, Duszak was founding CEO of the Neiman Health Policy Institute and also served as president and chief executive of West Reading (Pennsylvania) Radiology Associates.
In a March 17 social media announcement, UMMC’s Diagnostic Radiology Residency program called its new chair “a leadership giant in the field.”
“It's a very special mission-oriented institution with amazingly committed and compassionate people I'll be honored and proud to call my colleagues,” Duszak said his own social media post. “Who would have predicted that this kid who grew up on Philadelphia cheese steaks and hoagies would wind up calling Mississippi home? Life is an amazing journey indeed.”
Duszak has served on numerous professional committees, task forces, work groups and editorial boards, currently acting as chancellor overseeing the American College of Radiology’s leadership institute. He has also won numerous awards and has helped author more than 200 original research articles.
He is slated to assume the role July 1, succeeding Edward Green, MD, a professor of radiology who has served as interim chair of the department since September 2020.
