West Virginia state senator, a radiologist, charged with soliciting prostitute

West Virginia Sen. Mike Maroney has been arrested and arraigned for his alleged involvement in a prostitution ring. Maroney, a radiologist, has served in the state senate as a Republican since 2016.

Maroney was released on a $4,500 bond. According to a multiple reports from The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register. Maroney is one of several men charged in relation to this prostitution ring. He allegedly sent text messages to an accused prostitute on more than one occasion. The first alleged contact occurred back in May.

The Charleston Gazette-Mail previously reported on this story, obtaining a statement from Maroney. Maroney said there was “nothing to this story” and would not comment.

The West Virginia Democratic Party shared a prepared statement on the ongoing situation, calling for “the removal” of Maroney.

“Republican Leadership has long tried to flaunt their faith and family values while questioning ours, but when one of their own is in this kind of trouble they have nothing to say,” according to the statement. “Does GOP Chairwoman Melody Potter believe this represents the faith and family values the Republican Party claims to uphold?”
