Health system touts $7M expansion of molecular imaging department, ER

A health system in Utah just completed construction on imaging and emergency department additions that came with a more than $7 million price tag.

Intermountain Health Cedar City Utah last week held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the expansion of its emergency and molecular imaging services. The 4,500 square foot expansion includes 22 additional ED rooms, three of which are designated for behavioral health needs. The renovation also included the addition of a new PET scanner.

“Our emergency department expansion and the remodel of our Molecular Imaging suite, including the addition of advanced PET/CT and nuclear medicine technologies, reinforce our commitment to exceptional, patient-centered care," Jamison Robinett, president of Intermountain Cedar City Hospital, said in a news release. "These investments allow us to provide faster, more accurate diagnostics and a more seamless experience for every patient who walks through our doors."

Hospital leaders are hopeful the newly updated PET offerings will enable patients to seek treatment locally, avoiding long travel times.

"It has been shown that we recover better when you are able to remain close to home for our care, near our loved ones. This can be when emergency hits or when a family needs extra care,” added Natalie Ashby, president of Intermountain Health’s Southwest market.

The Intermountain Health system serves over half a million patients every year. The imaging department at Cedar City Hospital completed over 57,000 procedures in 2025 alone. The updated department is open to patients starting this week.
