Cancer patients in Turkey given incorrect irradiation treatment
Cancer patients receiving treatment at Akdeniz University Hospital’s Radiation Oncology Clinic in Antalya, Turkey, found that 27 patients were not given the correct dose of Total Body Irradiation (TBI) treatment. Staff and professors in the nuclear medicine, radiation oncology and radiology departments are investigating.
Between 2006 and 2009, TBI treatment for several patients started before important calculations were derived as a measurement system in the hospital was not working at the time, according to reporting by the Hurriyet Daily News.
Medical devices deemed unsuitable for medical purposes were also used during treatment, among other violations.
