More than 10K people take to the streets for breast cancer awareness

More than 10,000 people marched on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus on Oct. 6 to help raise breast cancer awareness.

The march was organized by Europa Donna, an independent, nonprofit breast cancer coalition, and AstroBank. This is the 14th year they have held the event, according to a report from Cyprus Mail.

Participants held pink figurines representing new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in 2017 and white figurines for individuals who lost their lives to breast cancer in 2017.

Evi Papadopoulos, head of the Cyprus division of Europa Donna, spoke to participants during the event.

“For us at Europa Donna, it is a matter of life, to leave our positive position to all women,” Papadopoulos said. “We are determined to give strength, to support and to secure a strong promise for tomorrow.”
