At least two U.S. radiology conferences have recently switched to virtual formats, citing COVID-19’s continued proliferation, weeks after RSNA had made its triumphant return.

Avoiding such Medicare reductions, despite a "bitterly partisan Congress" and ongoing pandemic, is "simply remarkable," one ACR leader said Thursday. 

As lawmakers look to tackle other issues first, the college said it's possible Congress may address doc pay cuts retroactively in 2022. 

Physicians face "draconian" Medicare cuts that could stifle cancer care in 2022, the American College of Radiology, ASTRO, Siemens and others wrote to President Biden recently.  

A coalition of 16-plus medical groups, representing radiology and other specialities, has formed to oppose the clinical labor wage update. 

The Medicare Access to Radiology Care Act has divided members of the specialty, with some arguing that RAs could help free up physicians to concentrate on complex or urgent cases. 

The Society of Interventional Radiology said the proposed cuts represent a “perfect storm,” resulting from the feds’ failure to keep labor rates and product tables current with inflation.

ACR President Geraldine McGinty, MD, MBA, introduced the group during her presidential address.
