Lumexa Imaging inks new joint venture with Hospital for Special Surgery
Lumexa Imaging has inked a new joint venture partnership with the Hospital for Special Surgery, the two announced Tuesday.
The Raleigh, North Carolina-based radiology group said this marks its ninth JV deal, with the latest boosting its presence in New York City. Lumexa and HSS together hope to expand access to advanced imaging across the city’s metro area, bringing specialty care closer to patients and referrers.
“Our collaboration with HSS represents an important milestone in Lumexa Imaging’s continued growth,” CEO Caitlin Zulla said in a statement June 2. “HSS is globally recognized for excellence in musculoskeletal health, and we are excited to work together to expand access to advanced imaging services across the New York market,” she added later.
Lumexa anticipates evaluating future potential imaging center locations across the region as part of its long-term growth plans. The imaging group will seek to leverage the Hospital for Special Surgery’s subspecialized radiology expertise as part of the partnership. Working together, they’ll seek to deliver an “elevated patient experience” across their network of locations.
Altogether, Lumexa operates approximately 190 outpatient centers, conducting 4 million procedures systemwide in 2025. Its nine joint ventures span 85 locations, with Lumexa also recently acquiring an imaging center in Pennsylvania as part of another joint venture with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. HSS, meanwhile, was founded in 1863 and is ranked No. 1 for orthopedics, according to U.S. News and World Report. The hospital said Tuesday that it picked a radiology partner through a competitive process.

Kelly, MD, MBA, president and CEO of HSS, said in a statement. “This collaboration enables us to meet growing demand for comprehensive outpatient imaging services while delivering an exceptional experience for patients and referring providers throughout the region,” he added later.
