BioTelemetry has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire clinical trial imaging company VirtualScopics for approximately $15.5 million, the companies announced today. 

After more than a week of rumors and speculation, Toshiba and Canon both made it official on Thursday: Canon has agreed to purchase Toshiba Medical Systems for more than $6 billion. Richard Berger, Canon’s global PR manager, talked about the deal via email with RadiologyBusiness.com, praising the company’s reputation and looking ahead to the future.

CIVCO Medical Solutions announced this week it has acquired PCI Medical, a company that specializes in effective disinfection of heat-sensitive medical devices. No exact figures were made public.

Baylis Medical, a medical device company with offices throughout the world, has announced plans to invest $32.5 million in a new research and development facility in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Part of that investment comes directly from the province of Ontario, which will provide a grant of up to $4.22 million toward the expansion.

Toshiba has officially announced the sale of its Toshiba Medical Systems unit to Canon for $6.2 billion. A newspaper from Tokyo reported the news last week, but it had not been confirmed until now.

The owners of Digital Radiology Center and Medisound in Kissimmee, Fla., have been arrested for allegedly defrauding Medicaid out of more than $180,000 in claims.
