Outgoing President Pete Moffatt reflects on the 2025 RBMA Annual Meeting
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Some closing thoughts coming off of the Radiology Business Management Association’s 2025 Paradigm Conference:
Overall, the event was a tremendous success: Associations have struggled to maintain robust attendance since the pandemic, bringing a little trepidation before I got to see our final numbers. However, not only did we have strong attendance—with nearly 700 people, representing all facets of the radiology industry—we came close to setting an all-time Paradigm high. Certainly, the venue helped, but what really drove numbers were the sessions and content provided over the three-day event. Speaking with many members in the Music City, it was refreshing to hear about the hard choices made by many as to which presentation they should sit in on during conflicting sessions. In the world we live in, RBMA members need actionable content they can put into practice immediately. A big area of focus for the association has been ensuring that sessions offer easy-to-adopt insights for the radiology business community. This is my 14th year coming to Paradigm, and I really felt this was one of, if not, the best conferences I’ve ever attended. The work that goes on behind the scenes to put a show like this together is a testament to the hardworking RBMA staff and multiple planning committees' efforts throughout the year.
What stood out to me: Speaking to many members in attendance, I circle back to comments I made at RSNA last November in a conversation with Radiology Business Digital Editor Dave Fornell. Artificial intelligence seems to have gone mainstream. Almost every individual I spoke with came to Paradigm looking for some type of AI technology to incorporate into their daily work. Radiology practice managers are eager to find solutions that will help them better control quality, address inefficiencies and reduce backlog burdens brought on by labor cuts or employment shortages. Imaging leaders also are looking for ways that AI can reduce capital expenditures in the tight economic environment most health systems and private practices are living in right now. At the same time, the level of interest from vendors in exhibiting and highlighting their products and services seems to be at an all-time high, and I expect that to continue as new technologies are introduced to the market over the next several years.
Finally, reflecting on my time as RBMA president: I feel very privileged to have led such an experienced and capable board of directors. I believe that, over the last year, we accomplished a lot and moved many positive initiatives forward for RBMA. I tried to take it upon myself to engage with as many of our constituents as possible during the last 12 months. My hope was to gain insight on how the association can continue to ensure our membership base gets the highest return on their investment in this organization. The association is in a great place with the current co-executive director model, as well as our incoming president, Jamie Dyer. I look forward to continuing to serve our membership as immediate past president while working with the 2025-2026 board of directors over the next year.
