Solis Mammography names new CMO, opens 3 additional imaging centers

Solis Mammography on Wednesday named a new chief medical officer fresh off opening three imaging centers across two states.

The Addison, Texas-based breast screening provider has picked Emily Sedgwick, MD, MBA, to fill the key role. A fellowship-trained breast radiologist, she most recently served as an independent healthcare advisor and consultant and before that was president and CEO of LCMC Health, a New Orleans hospital system.

Sedgwick replaces Chirag Parghi, MD, who took on the title in September 2021 after previously working as a partner and breast imager with Radiology Partners. Solis Mammography said he left to pursue new opportunities in breast imaging, with his tenure ending in August, according to LinkedIn. (He’s listed among Rad Partner's recently announced RSNA 2025 speakers.)

"[Dr. Sedgwick’s] dedication to women's health and her deep experience in leading clinical programs is widely respected,” Solis CEO Grant Davies, MHA, said in a Nov. 19 announcement. “She has a proven record of improving patient access and outcomes, and her leadership will only strengthen Solis' commitment to providing exceptional care to every patient we serve."

Sedgwick earned her MD at the University of California, San Francisco, and completed her residency at Harvard/Brigham and Women’s. She also previously served as executive CMO covering the University of Kentucky Healthcare’s Lexington market and before that was CMO for multiple HCA Hospitals. With Solis Mammography, she’ll shape clinical leadership and ensure continued “screening excellence” across the company’s 150-plus imaging centers. In her previous hospital roles, Solis touted the radiologist’s role helping eliminate a 89-day delay between abnormal mammograms and biopsies in underserved communities.

Sedgwick is based in the Dallas and has won previous accolades including being named the Press Ganey National Physician of the Year in 2018. Solis Mammography, meanwhile, was founded in 1986 and in 2018 sold a majority stake to Chicago-based investment group Madison Dearborn Capital Partners, tripling in size since, now covering 23 major U.S. markets.

“Solis has an incredible mission: helping women access comprehensive breast care while driving the latest innovations in early detection. I'm excited to contribute to that mission, to support our teams across the country and to ensure every patient experiences an unparalleled level of personalized care,” Sedgwick said in the announcement.

New locations

In separate news, Solis Mammography has announced the opening of three outpatient imaging centers across Texas and Colorado.

The latest location is in north McKinney, Texas, marking its 38th in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Solis said the center will offer integration of artificial intelligence software with 3D mammography for greater accuracy and earlier cancer detection.

McKinney also will offer SmartCurve breast imaging for greater comfort and Mammo+Heart, an extra-charge service that has AI check mammograms for breast arterial calcification—a marker of cardiovascular disease risk.

“By expanding our footprint with the opening of our North McKinney center, we can continue to bring high-quality, patient-focused breast care to the women who need it,” CEO Davies, said in a statement Nov. 17. “Our mission has always been to deliver an exceptional patient experience, and this new location allows us to serve more women throughout Dallas-Fort Worth.”

Solis Mammography had previously announced the opening of its 37th Dallas-area location in late October. This center is in the community of North Richard Hills, Texas, and operated in partnership with the 22-hospital Medical City Healthcare system. Richard Hills is situated in the North Tarrant Marketplace and offers many of the same amenities as McKinney including AI-enhanced mammograms.

And finally, Solis Mammography in late October also opened another outpatient imaging center in Aurora, Colorado, in partnership with HCA HealthONE Rose, which it says is the largest hospital system in metro Denver. Solis is planning to open more breast imaging centers around the city in 2025 and is “committed to providing greater access to breast health services for the women of Colorado.”

“With each new center, we’re able to advance our mission of early detection and save more lives,” Davies said in an Oct. 27 announcement.

Solis Mammography also previously entered the Missouri market in October by acquiring the St. Louis Breast Center and opened two other Texas locations in August alongside its first in the Raleigh, North Carolina market.
