Private equity-backed Solis Mammography opens 3 new locations

Private equity-backed Solis Mammography continues to expand, recently announcing the opening of three new centers.

The Addison, Texas-based breast imaging provider is launching two locations in its home state, targeting the communities of Missouri City and Cedar Park. In addition, Solis Mammography is marking its first foray into the Raleigh metropolitan area, adding another center in Cary, North Carolina, leaders said Monday.

Altogether, the company now operates over 150 imaging centers across 10 regions, tripling its location total since selling a majority company stake to Madison Dearborn Capital Partners in 2018. Solis Mammography’s history dates to 1986 when radiologist Timothy Freer, MD, founded Women’s Diagnostic of Texas before adopting the Solis name in 2006.

“For almost 40 years, we’ve been dedicated to delivering personalized care and peace of mind to all our patients,” CEO Grant Davies said in a statement Aug. 25. “As we enter the Raleigh-Cary area, we look forward to introducing Solis Mammography’s formula for a better mammogram—a promise of comfort, convenience and compassion—to the women who call this community home.”

Here’s a quick look at the three new locations:

Cedar Park, Texas: Solis Mammography is launching a center in Cedar Park, a suburb about 16 miles northwest of Austin’s city center.

It’s opening the location in partnership with St. David’s Healthcare, which is part of HCA, the country’s largest hospital operator. This marks Solis Mammography’s fifth outpost in the Austin metro area, according to an Aug. 11 announcement.

The “neighborhood location” is situated in the Parke Shopping Center, 5001 183A Frontage Road, and offers artificial intelligence-supported 3D mammography, online scheduling and fast results.

Missouri City, Texas: Solis Mammography also is targeting the suburb of Missouri City in partnership with HCA Houston Healthcare, another affiliate of the country’s largest hospital provider.

This marks its 26th entry in the Houston metro area, located at 9010 Sienna Crossing Drive. It similarly will offer AI-backed mammography and easy scheduling.

“As we further expand into the greater Houston area, it’s not about the number of centers we’re opening, it’s about the number of patients we’re reaching,” CEO Davies said in an announcement Monday.

Cary, North Carolina: Finally, Solis Mammography is rolling out its fifth center in the Tar Heel State, this time in the community of Cary.

The center is stationed in the Millpond Village Shopping Center, 3434 Kildaire Farm Road, and provides 3D mammography. In addition, Solis said Cary patients can opt into its  Mammo+Heart offering at the time of their appointment. This service detects breast arterial calcification as part of a breast exam, delivering insight into heart health and the risk for potential cardiovascular disease. Currently, it offers the heart health service across numerous other centers including Missouri City and Cedar Park, Texas.

Solis Mammography said it plans to open four more centers in the state within the next year, highlighting its commitment to North Carolina.

Altogether, the company operates across over 10 regions including Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, San Antonio, Tennessee, Utah and the District of Columbia. Solis Expanded in the country’s capital with the acquisition of Washington Radiology in 2021, which it said at the time was the largest radiologist-owned practice in the area.

Last week, Solis announced that Washington Radiology is relocating its K Street location to a new state-of-the-art facility at 1145 19th Street in downtown D.C. The center provides a full range of imaging services including ultrasound, 3T MRI, CT, biopsies, X-ray and bone densitometry.

Washington Radiology has been in business for 75 years with 17 locations serving the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia (DMV).

"With Washington Radiology's long history in the DMV area, we're pleased to continue to offer patients and physicians the deep clinical expertise in diagnostic and wellness imaging services that they've come to expect, but in a new center that was built to better the patient experience," Davis said in a separate announcement shared Aug. 19.

Solis Mammography also announced the opening of three centers in July, spanning the Texas communities of Brownsville, McAllen and Rockwall.
