Pioneering private practice and its 68 physicians join Strategic Radiology
A pioneering private practice and its 68 physicians are joining Strategic Radiology’s growing coalition of independent imaging groups.
North Carolina-based Eastern Radiologists announced the move on Tuesday, marking the 46th practice to join SR and eighth in the Tar Heel State. Founded in 1954 by Allen Taylor, MD, who died in 2014, Eastern Radiologists was the first such practice in Pitt County to use ultrasound and CT imaging, among other local breakthroughs.
Eastern Radiologists said it joined the coalition to help maintain the group’s independence, along with gaining access to innovative tools, data and peer collaboration.
“Our mission has always been to provide exceptional patient care backed by clinical excellence,” practice President Brian Kuszyk, MD, said in a statement Aug. 19. “This is an investment in the future of our practice and the communities we serve, enabling Eastern Radiologists to continue to thrive in a rapidly changing healthcare landscape.”
The practice is located in Greenville—Pitt County’s most populous city, about 84 miles east of Raleigh—which is home to East Carolina University and ECU Health (an ER client). Eastern Radiologists serves over 80 points of care across a large geographic region, including 14 area hospitals and several state-of-the-art imaging centers. It also is hiring for hybrid and remote-radiologist positions in Greenville and other eastern Carolina coastal communities to address growth and retirements. Eastern Radiologists provides the full spectrum of imaging services, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine and mammography, along with performing interventional procedures.
Founded in 2009, Strategic Radiology now represents more than 2,100 radiologists across approximately 25 states. Leaders noted that through membership, the practice will gain access to group purchasing power, clinical quality improvement programs, national benchmarking tools, and the Strategic Radiology Patient Safety Organization. The latter was the country’s first radiology-specific PSO, established in 2013 and recognized by Health and Human Services, allowing docs to collect and analyze data and improve care quality.

“Eastern Radiologists exemplifies the kind of practice we seek for our coalition,” said Scott Bundy, MD, chairman and CEO of SR and a neurological imaging specialist with Radiology Associates of North Texas. “They are deeply rooted in the community, committed to excellence, and driven to innovate.”
Strategic Radiology said it has seen sustained growth over the past two years, adding over a dozen new groups since the start of 2023. In the last two months, it has expanded into two new states, welcoming Alaska Imaging and West County Radiological Group (of Missouri) to the coalition.
