ACR releases updated CPT codes effective in 2017

The American College of Radiology has released an updated list of the 2017 Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes relevant to radiology. Care providers should review the changes before they take effect Jan. 1, 2017.

Of particular interest are the changes in bundled mammography, the addition of imaging to dialysis and balloon angioplasty bundles, changes in flourospic guidance codes, and alterations to the spinal injection codes.

Mammography is now bundled with computer-aided detection (CAD), which identifies more invasive cancers but can also increase the rate of false-positive results. Several CPT codes relating to CAD will be removed, including unilateral and bilateral CAD mammography codes (77055 and 77056).
