Providers find patient-facing status with dataset from Neiman HPI

The Harvey L. Neiman Health Policy Institute has released a tool to help providers determine if they are patient-facing or not. The Radiologist Patient Facing Dataset (RPFD) uses claims data from 2012 to 2014 establish their patient-facing status.

Users can look up names of radiologists who reported as a Diagnostic Radiologist, Interventional Radiologist or Nuclear Medicine specialty for the Physician option. Other information included in the dataset includes total CMS fee-for-service procedures.

The patient-facing provision could cause problems for radiologists, as many Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) reporting measures are best suited for physicians with frequent face-to-face encounters. Radiologists need to anticipate their patient-facing status and prepare their reporting strategy, according to a Journal of the American College of Radiology study, and this tool could help.
