Children's Hospital Los Angeles names new radiologist-in-chief
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) has named Fariba Goodarzian, MD, as its new radiologist-in-chief and chair of radiology, effective August 1.
Goodarzian will oversee the hospital’s radiology and imaging services, including CT, diagnostic imaging, interventional radiology, MRI, nuclear medicine, PET and ultrasound. She also will serve as a professor of radiology at the Keck School of Medicine at USC. In her new role, Goodarzian will work with clinical and administrative leaders on care delivery, quality improvement, faculty development, research, education and interdisciplinary collaboration across the hospital.
Goodarzian is board-certified in diagnostic radiology and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in pediatric radiology. Her research interests include pediatric imaging, nuclear medicine and oncology, and she has worked on studies involving neuroblastoma and soft tissue sarcoma. Goodarzian has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed studies and continues to serve as a co-investigator on research supported by the National Cancer Institute and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
The radiologist has been part of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for more than 25 years. She initially joined the institution for fellowships in pediatric radiology and pediatric neuroradiology, as well as an internship in pediatrics. She went on to hold several leadership positions, including vice chair of radiology and director of radiology quality assurance, MRI and nuclear medicine.
Her work at CHLA has focused on quality, safety, operational efficiency and resource utilization. She has worked with colleagues to identify gaps in care and improve clinical processes, while also mentoring residents, fellows and junior faculty.

In addition to her background in journalism, Hannah also has patient-facing experience in clinical settings, having spent more than 12 years working as a registered rad tech. She began covering the medical imaging industry for Innovate Healthcare in 2021.
