Strategic Radiology expands into new state, adding Kentucky private practice

Strategic Radiology is expanding into its 28th state, enlisting a Kentucky private practice.

The coalition of independent imaging groups on Tuesday announced the addition Central Kentucky Radiology PLLC and its 14 physicians. Based in Lexington—the state’s second most populous city and the “Horse Capital of the World—CKR provides interpretations and hospital staffing services to facilities across the region.

Its board-certified radiologists hold subspecializations across interventional and neuroradiology, nuclear medicine, musculoskeletal and breast imaging. Strategic Radiology said the practice is known for its responsive service, strong hospital partnerships and commitment to accurate and timely interpretations.

“We value independence and believe collaboration with like-minded practices strengthens our ability to serve our hospitals and referring providers,” Julie Coffey, MHA, CEO of Central Kentucky Radiology, said in a statement March 3. “Strategic Radiology provides a platform for shared insight, benchmarking and strategic support while allowing us to remain locally focused and physician led.”

Central Kentucky Radiology said it is committed to building a “strong physician culture.” The practice is focused on doing so through fostering a supportive work environment, investing in efficiencies and maintaining consistent leadership. CKR said it values long-term stability, along with ensuring radiologists can practice ethically and seek continuous improvement.

Coffey and colleagues believe this focus helps Central Kentucky Radiology to meet the “evolving needs” of referrers, healthcare partners and patients while also “preserving the integrity of its physician-led model.”

“Their practice embodies the core values of Strategic Radiology,” Scott Bundy, MD, CEO of Strategic Radiology and a physician with member practice Radiology Associates of North Texas, said in a statement. “We are proud to support practices like CKR that are shaping the future of radiology through radiologist ownership, leadership and innovation,” he added later.

This marks the third practice to join Strategic Radiology in 2026, following Indiana-based Evansville Radiology in February and Radiology Chartered, Green Bay, Wisconsin, in January. Chesapeake Medical Imaging, Annapolis, Maryland, also recently left the practice coalition this month after selling its imaging centers to RadNet Inc.
