Miami-based IntelliRad Imaging and its 37 physicians join Strategic Radiology

Miami-based private practice IntelliRad Imaging and its 37 physicians are joining Strategic Radiology, the two announced Wednesday.

Four radiologists founded the physician group in 2012 and it has continued to grow since, adding a new hospital contract about every other year. IntelliRad now covers five hospitals and the same number of freestanding emergency centers across Florida’s Dade and Broward counties, all affiliated with HCA Healthcare.

“Our practice strives to provide the highest quality radiology care to our patients while also making positive contributions to the culture and success of each hospital,” Eduardo Franca, MD, president of IntelliRad Imaging, said in a July 10 announcement. “We look forward to developing new relationships and sharing best practices with like-minded colleagues from other private radiology groups across the United States.”

This marks the 39th private practice to join Strategic Radiology, a coalition of doc groups aiming to gain the benefits of consolidation without the downsides. Altogether, the organization represents over 1,700 radiologists, also adding both Arkansas-based Hot Springs Radiology and Northwest Radiologists in Washington state last month.

IntelliRad Imaging’s roster includes 33 fellowship-trained radiologists, four dedicated neurointerventional specialists, and 13 advanced practice providers. The practice covers four stroke facilities and two trauma centers, providing the full range of subspecialized imaging services. It also runs a “robust and growing” interventional service line with three clinics seeing patients before and after procedures, SR noted.

“Our newest member is a young, vibrant and innovative practice committed to the wholly physician-owned independent practice model,” Strategic Radiology CEO and Chair Scott Bundy, MD, a practicing physician and partner at Radiology Associates of North Texas, said in the announcement. “Built on a culture focused on delivering the highest levels of service and quality, IntelliRad will be a great addition to our coalition.”

After reviewing years of data from its clinic, one institution discovered that issues with implant data integrity frequently put patients at risk.

Prior to the final proposal’s release, the American College of Radiology reached out to CMS to offer its recommendations on payment rates for five out of the six the new codes.

“Before these CPT codes there was no real acknowledgment of the additional burden borne by the providers who accepted these patients."
