Premier Radiology Services acquires rival teleradiology group NRad

Premier Radiology Services is acquiring another rival teleradiology group, the private equity-backed imaging outfit announced on Wednesday.

The Deerfield Beach, Florida-based company said it has reached a deal to buy National Radiology Solutions, or NRad, for an undisclosed sum. Founded in 2013 by industry veteran Robb Kolb, MBA, Premier said NRad is a “highly regarded teleradiology provider,” known for its “deep expertise” across all subspecialties.

Adding the Winter Garden, Florida-based firm will allow Premier Radiology to grow its national footprint, strengthen clinical coverage and enable more efficient interpretations.

“Welcoming the NRad team marks another important milestone for Premier and meaningfully expands the scale and capabilities of our platform,” CEO Andy Copilevitz, MBA, said in a statement Jan. 28. “Our organizations share a deep commitment to advancing the practice of teleradiology and supporting the physicians who make it possible.”

National Radiology Solutions was founded with the purpose of providing a “personal touch” in the teleradiology sector. Its roster consists of U.S.-based, board-certified radiologists alongside a dedicated clinical support team. The move comes after Premier Radiology Services also added Chicago-based MetisMD and its 30 rads last July and the similarly named NationalRad, of Deerfield Beach, Florida, in 2024.

Premier Radiology bills itself as a leading provider of teleradiology solutions, serving outpatient settings across the U.S. Founded in 2006, the company interprets over 3 million medical images annually, employing a network of 165 board-certified radiologists. It offers 24/7 coverage across various specialties, spanning musculoskeletal care, neuroradiology, cardiology and women’s imaging.

Copilevitz and colleagues said the acquisition of National Radiology Solutions will allow Premier to further expand its network to support a wider range of outpatient imaging centers, orthopedic practices, university healthcare systems, and both collegiate and professional athletes. Kolb and colleagues plan to join the Premier team after the deal closes, seeking to ensure continuity of care for patients while “further strengthening Premier’s operations, commercial and clinical talent.”

“Our success reflects the commitment of our team,” Kolb said in the announcement. “Their hard work enabled us to reach this important moment, and Premier will continue to drive our shared success moving forward—combining strengths, expanding our reach and delivering a higher level of service than either organization could achieve alone.”

Private equity firm Grovecourt Capital Partners first acquired Premier in 2023, at a time when it employed about 100 rads and handled 2 million medical images. The firm is unaffiliated with Nashville-based Premier Radiology, one of the largest outpatient diagnostic imaging networks in Tennessee, with over 20 locations across the state.

The deal continues the trend of increased interest among private equity firms in teleradiology. Last year, Ziegler M&A expert Andrew Colbert labeled telerad consolidation as one of his key trends to watch in 2025. The market is currently worth about $4.4 billion and expected to reach $6.7 billion by 2027. PE has been drawn to the industry, Colbert said, seeing benefits such as reduced staffing challenges, greater access to subspecialists, and more consistent report turnaround times.

Ziegler recently advised Philips on its sale of Direct Radiology to Housatonic Partners-backed OnRad. Other recent deals of note have included Australia’s I-Med Radiology Network (backed by Permira) acquiring StatRad, America’s second largest telerad provider, along with RadSource scoring an investment from PE firm HealthEdge.
