Lantheus weighs potential sale with $7B valuation

Lantheus is weighing a potential sale, with the radiopharmaceutical firm carrying a hefty price tag.

The Bedford, Massachusetts-based company has reportedly been approached about a possible acquisition by competitor Curium Pharma, Bloomberg reported May 22 citing people familiar with the matter. Lantheus has reportedly been in ongoing discussions on a deal, which could be weeks away, according to the report.

Bloomberg emphasized that no final decision has been made and there’s no guarantee talks will lead to a finalized transaction.

Curium also was reportedly valued at about $7 billion last year when its owners at CapVest Partners raised funds for a “continuation vehicle” of the nuclear medicine firm. Reuters said both Curium and Lantheus have declined to comment on the report.

The move comes as Lantheus has faced recent setbacks in its business. A class-action filed last year claimed the company misled investors about the market position of its blockbuster product Pylarify, a target PET imaging agent for prostate cancer. Lantheus also received word in March that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration was pushing back its review of a new PET imaging product targeted toward neuroendorcrine tumors.
