Radiology provider Affidea acquires 4-location cancer care outfit

Affidea, one of the largest diagnostic imaging providers in Europe, continues to grow with another acquisition.

Backed by investment firm Groupe Bruxelles Lambert, Affidea has a deal in place to acquire MedEuropa Romania, a “renowned” radiotherapy provider.

“We believe that an integrated care solution is optimal for oncology patients and, therefore, we see the integration of MedEuropa in the larger Affidea family as an ideal avenue for delivering the best care and results for cancer patients in Romania,” MedEuropa leaders said in a statement issued March 4.

The Romanian provider group operates four medical centers with plans to open a fifth location in the coming months. Its services include radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other oncology offerings, which Affidea plans to integrate with its imaging services. Completion of the deal is subject to approval from the Romanian Competition Council.

Founded in 1991, investors acquired the company in 2022 from Switzerland’s wealthiest individual, Ernesto Bertarelli. At the time, owners committed to invest upward of $1.1 billion into the imaging group. Affidea operates 355 centers across 15 countries, treating 13 million patients annually, and recently raised $216 million in growth capital.
